How do you apply an edible print to a cake?

Applying an edible image takes a few simple steps—here’s a clean, professional method:

  1. Prepare your image

    • Carefully peel off the plastic backing.

    • Trim around the edges with scissors or craft knife for a neat fit.

  2. Optional: Back it with fondant

    • Roll out a thin piece of white fondant.

    • Mist the back of your image lightly with water or edible glue—just enough to make it stick, not so much that the ink runs.

    • Apply to the fondant and smooth gently.

  3. Apply to the cake

    • If your cake is butter‑cream covered: you can apply directly—no water needed if edges stay flat.

    • For fondant cakes: mist the back of the image, then press onto the fondant.

    • Smooth gently with fingertips and use palm pressure to push out any air.

  4. Finish the edges

    • Once set, trim around the image with a sharp craft knife so it blends seamlessly with your cake.

  5. Pro tips

    • Don’t over‑wet—too much moisture and ink will smudge.

    • Work quickly once peeling the backing: freezing the sheet 10–15 seconds can help the image lift smoothly.

    • Apply the image close to serving time—within 48 hours—to avoid moisture build-up.
